Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse was one of the first creations from the artist Walt Disney. Did you know that he was originally in a black-and-white silent film called “Steamboat Willy” and he does not talk at all? Mickey’s first cartoon was a worldwide hit and made Walt Disney a very famous man.

Bugs Bunny

Bugs Bunny and the gang from the Loony Tunes were also very famous and always competed with Mickey Mouse. From their first episodes, Bugs and his friends were smash hits and people loved him.

Gumby

One popular for a while animation — or claymation — was “Gumby.” This was a story about a green man and his donkey named Pokey. They went on all types of fun adventures.

The Transformers

You might know “The Transformers” from the reboots and the movies, but these changing robots were actually a very popular series in the 1980s. They were part of a trend of toys that went along with cartoons.

TITLE: The Man Who Laughs

Who is your favorite movie, comic book, video game or television villain? For nearly 100 years, people have loved the Joker – one of Batman’s worst enemies. The Joker is an insane clown that loves to rob and annoy Batman.

However, do you know the origin of the Joker? He was not just a character in a comic book, but also a character from a film called, “The Man Who Laughs.” This is a very old movie from 1928. This is when movies were silent. The movie’s plot is about a prince that is forced to have a surgery that makes him smile all the time and he becomes a clown in a circus.

The clown’s name is Gwynplaine and he is called The Man Who Laughs. This movie is more of a horror movie and you may think it is boring now, but is still very beautiful and scary.

Maybe the most famous – or infamous – Joker actor is played by Cesar Romero in the 1960s Batman. In this version of Joker, he is very funny and goofy. Romero’s Joker is always laughing and playing jokes. This made Batman look very silly. One very interesting thing about Cesar Romero was that he never shaved off his mustache to play the Joker.

Another very famous version of Joker was one of the biggest films ever, called “Batman” in 1989. At the time, this movie made more money than any other movie. Joker was played by Jack Nicholson. He was both crazy and a little funny.

Next, Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars” gave his voice to Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series.” This cartoon was a huge hit around the world and most people may remember Joker’s laughs and crazy talking.

After many years, Heath Ledger became the Joker in “The Dark Knight” in 2008. In this version, we never learn about the history of the Joker because he seems much crazier than the other Jokers. This approach was very popular and won Heath Ledger a lot of prizes.

Later, “The Suicide Squad” came out with Jared Leto as the Joker. He was very different. This Joker had many tattoos and strange teeth. He did not seem like a clown, but more like a crazy person. Not many people liked this Joker.

Last of all – for now – “The Joker” came out in 2019 starring Joaquin Phoenix. This movie tried to show more of the history of the Joker and show that he was a troubled and crazy person.

Which is your favorite version of the Joker?
